Key Responsibilities

  • Work with the Director, Industry to support SED Fund’s grant management and projects portfolio and manage them throughout their lifecycle. ie Concept development, co-creation, detailed proposal stage, programme execution/ implementation phase and closure.

  • Contribute to the formulation, implementation and ambitions of Industry work stream related strategies.

  • Assist in the identification and assessment of potential grantee organisations and other partners, ensuring alignment with the organisation's priorities, mission and values.

  • Follow up review, improvement and customisation of concept notes, proposals, due diligence, contracts, reports and other grantee/consultant deliverables, including supervising and ensuring timely course corrections as needed.

  • Collaborate with the Programme Team to execute strategies that align with the organisation's goals and objectives in areas such as Industry Decarbonisation, and Clean Energy.

  • Support the Programme Team by managing the Programme Team’s budget and the interface with the Grants Management System and with Operations Team to ensure a smooth programmatic delivery.

  • Support and at times lead the organisation's efforts in stakeholder engagement, networking, and partnership building to ensure an expanding ecosystem focused on enabling systematic decarbonisation of the Industry Sector.

  • Assist in initiatives related to knowledge sharing and capacity building among relevant stakeholders, including providing support with event organisation.

  • Collaborate closely with the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Manager and the Operations Team to design and track the project’s activities, outputs, outcomes and impact, including gathering reliable data to contribute to impact assessments and reporting.

  • Stay up to date on emerging trends, policies, and best practices.

Experiences and Competencies

  • Master's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Engineering, Finance, Sustainability Studies, Energy Management, Business Studies, Environment Studies etc.) and preferably at least 5-7 years of experience working on Industry Transition and Decarbonisation .

  • Ideally, must have worked in a combination any of the following; Consultancies, Corporate, Industry, bilaterals or multi laterals, certification bodies etc on Technical Assistance, Sustainability Projects, Donor Projects, Policy Analysis, National or Sub National Industry Policies related to Industry Transition in India.

  • Knowledge and experience on Industry decarbonisation approaches, partnerships and pathways on GHG intensive sectors like steel, cement, built environment, green buildings, chemicals and SMEs.

  • Previous operations and project management experience is desirable.

  • Previous experience in bid management/assistance and managing networks is desirable

  • Experience with the domains of sustainability reporting/frameworks, green buildings, industry policy, financing and or innovation/acceleration / climatech frameworks is desirable.

  • Excellent understanding of India's socio-economic context is a must.

  • Ability to represent the organisation with a wide spectrum of stakeholders and platforms and at sub national, national, regional and global level.

The successful candidate must possess the following:

  • Strong experience and passion for Industry Transition, Decarbonisation, Sustainability, Climate Change and multi-stakeholder engagements.

  • Ability to make effective connections among various stakeholders, such as corporates, industry/sector associations, research bodies, policy bodies and practice, academic institutions, other philanthropic foundations and the overall eco system.

  • Ability to bring your own views, opinions and expertise in Climate Action and Just Transition to the position. 

  • Be able to formulate strategies in line with organisation’s goals, work stream goals and sector priorities/issues even when data points are ambiguous

  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise, simplify and act upon complex information.

  • Ability to understand and synergise global and national expectations with ground level realities.

  • Self-confident, collegial, flexible and diplomatic, with an understanding and appreciation of the role of a grant-making institution.

  • Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks.

  • Computer literate, with a high level of comfort with productivity applications which enable working in a multi-country environment.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and transnational teams

  • Other skills include: The ability to be a team player; convey problems and issues clearly and succinctly and maintain openness to people with diverse views, while bringing your own views, expertise and opinions in climate action and just transition into the position.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Programme Associate who will work closely with the Director Industry and the rest of the Programme Team on all aspects of programmatic strategy and grant-making. The Senior Programme Associate is expected to apply their expertise to the design and implementation of the programme and associated grant-making strategies.

In this role, the Senior Programme Associate will be expected to:

  • Possess a technical background and understanding of Industry in India, especially those which are GHG intensive like manufacturing with respect to decarbonisation and energy transition

  • Build effective working relationships with the Industry, SED Fund’s network and the other stakeholders in the ecosystem connected to Industry Transition and Decarbonisation.

  • Anticipate potential issues on programme design, roll out and propose solutions.

  • Proactively present new ideas and suggestions for programme improvement and to execute them.

  • Consistently produce high-quality work, deliver under pressure as well as make decisions under ambiguous circumstances
