Key Responsibilities
General Ledger and Financial Accounting
Maintain and reconcile the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance analysis.
Ensure that grantmaking transactions are accurately captured, including commitments, disbursements, FX adjustments, and reporting requirements.
Maintain accurate records of accruals, prepayments, and deferred income.
Financial Controls and Compliance
Ensure compliance with NL GAAP accounting standards and internal finance policies.
Support external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and explanations as needed.
Assist in maintaining strong internal control systems, including documentation of processes related to grants, payments, and financial reporting.
Ensure proper documentation and filing of all financial records for audits and regulatory retention.
Grant Management and Accounting
Track and monitor grant financial activity, ensuring that expenditures align with approved budgets and contractual terms.
Support financial due diligence on prospective and current grantees where required.
Prepare financial information needed for grant reporting to funders.
Accounts Payable Tasks
Review and process supplier invoices, grantee payments, and expense claims, ensuring accuracy, correct coding, and compliance with policies.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
Assist with the preparation of the monthly management reports, donor financial reports, and year-end financial statements.
Contribute to building dashboards, improving reporting tools, and enhancing financial transparency across teams.
Process Improvements and Systems
Contribute to the improvement, automation, and implementation of accounting processes and systems, to strengthen efficiency, quality, and compliance in financial workflows.
Experiences and Competencies
The successful candidate must possess the following:
Relevant Bachelor or Master’s degree
Accounting certification preferred (e.g CPA, ACCA, CIA, CIMA )
Minimum 3-4 years’ related professional experience.
Proven expertise in Financial accounting and controls.
Strong attention to detail; solutions-focused and hands-on.
Adaptable, able to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and spoken English.
Alignment with SED Fund values.
What we offer
Employment and Benefits
We offer a 1-year fixed term contract, with the intention to renew long term. The annual salary band for this position (excluding 8% holiday allowance paid in May and 13th month paid in November) is between €50,5693 and €66,000 depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The organisation also offers a generous benefits package in line with local standards. This will be a full-time (40 hours/week) hybrid role based in our office in The Hague (average 2 times a week) and from your home address in The Netherlands, and will require some time flexibility to support and collaborate with staff and stakeholders in multiple time zones

About the Role
We are seeking a Finance & Reporting Accountant to play a central role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of SED Fund’s financial records. This position supports the full financial cycle, from daily bookkeeping to month end close, ensuring that all transactions and regranting activities are properly recorded in accordance with internal policies and external regulatory requirements.
Reporting to the Financial Controller.
Candidates must have the independent and legal right to live and work in the Netherlands. Candidates based in the Netherlands are expected to work hybrid from their home office and the SED Fund office in the Hague. We unfortunately cannot offer visa sponsorship or relocation support for this position.
